Description
What is a home? It can be a room or a whole house. A town, a community or an entire country. It can be a landscape, an ecosystem, a habitat. "Welcoming Home the Sinixt" was originally to be the title of this third in a series of chapbooks about the Sinixt People. But as Marilyn James, appointed spokesperson for Sinixt Nation, and I, a local author, collaboratedin its writing, the words began to take shape as dialogue. The intention became not so much to welcome home this region's First People, as to integrate their presence. For in spirit, the Sinxt People have never left. The Sinixt culture has roots here over 5,000 years deep. My culture arrived here 200 years ago. Our perspectives are obviously different, but our respect for each other is the same, and from that respect we can navigate any sort of river, lake or reservoir imaginable. -- prologue.
